How To Find A Realtor

If you’re considering selling your home, then most likely you are in the market for a good real estate agent as well. You probably have friends, relatives, and neighbors that are in the business, in various forms, but do you trust them to sell your most valuable possession, your home?  Many people get into the real estate business, then never actually sell or list even one home, or, maybe they list one that belongs to a friend, or relative, and that’s it.  As a person selling your home, it’s important to find an experienced realtor, that you can trust to do an excellent job.  Let’s take a look at how to find a realtor that will do the best job possible in selling your home.

Pick A Full Time Agent.

At any given time, fully 25% of all real estate agents have never sold even one property in their entire career.  Many of them just work part time, or heard there was easy money to be made, they took the courses,  got the license and then, nothing.  Selling real estate is a high paying hard working job.  It involves coming out of your shell, talking to people you don’t know, approaching people you don’t know, and constantly being on the look out for buyers and sellers.  Many people don’t have what it takes, personality wise, to do the job.  But the last thing you want is someone that is working a full time job, and trying to sell homes on the side.  When a customer calls at 10:00 AM in the morning, are they going to be able to talk to your realtor immediately?  Can a part time person drop everything and run meet a client at your home for a tour?  You should stick with the full time agent if at all possible.

Make Sure They Are Contactable, Available, And Connected.

Everyone has a cell phone now, email, website, Facebook and voicemail, but how long does it take them to return a call?  That is something you’ll want to find out from the start.  Even full time agents can have busy lives that take time away from their work.  That’s all well and good, for them, but you need to sell your home and it’s important to have it done in a reasonable amount of time.

Make Sure The’re Going To Spend Some Money On Ads.

Many agents will merely list your home, put it on the multiple listing service, then expect it to sell.  Sometimes they do. There are other agents that have clients, called a buyers agent, and they’ll be looking through the MLS listings and may find your home and buy it.  On the other hand, if the market is a little slow, economy a little bad, your home a little out of the way, it may sit forever if they aren’t going to run an ad in the paper, on the internet, have open houses, get some outside exposure.  Ask them upfront before you list, how they plan on selling your home, and where they are going to advertize it.

Listing a home with a realtor is something that should be done with some careful thought. When it comes to how to find a realtor, you should definitely do your research to get the best one in your area, after all, it’s your biggest investment, you need to make sure it’s done right.
